A popular new diet pill is now on store shelves. It is called Alli and is known to have dramatic effects. Some of the side effects can be downright embarrassing. As summer heats up, so does the battle of the bulge, and many are looking for that magic pill to make the weight disappear.
Philip Mittin, Pharmacist: "Most of the weight loss programs you have to just think about starving and deprivation."
Now a new diet pill called Alli has hit store shelves. Philip Mittin is a pharmacist, and says requests for the drug are pouring in. Here's how the pill works- Alli blocks the absorption of fat into your body. You're supposed to take it with each meal that contains some fat. Alli has several side effects, one of the most unpleasant is diarrhea. Even in its display, Alli warns that this pill isn't for everyone. You must be committed to a low-fat diet or you may face some uncomfortable side effects. Mittin says that, for some, the results may be worth it.
Philip Mittin: "It's a very, very good product when used as directed."
But he adds that Alli can't do all the work for you. You'll have to do your part as well by adding a low-calorie diet and exercise to you weight-loss plan. A startup kit including pills and supplemental materials can cost between $50 and $60. The makers of Alli suggest that you consult your doctor before starting a diet regimen using their product.
