An area school is one of only two-dozen statewide selected for a U.S Department of Agriculture grant on eating healthy.
A gorilla handed out bananas to some 400-kindergarten through sixth-graders at Samson elementary.
26-thousand federal dollars will be used in creating more interest in fruit and vegetables.
National studies point to child obesity and diabetes as two main threats to the health of children.
Samson Elementary School principal, Donna Kirkpatrick, says, "We at Samson elementary are proud to be the recipient of the agriculture grant. It'll be used to teach the children on the proper and healthiest food choices, and allow us access to teaching materials on the best way to promote fruits and vegetables"
Fruits will be distributed to the students early in the morning and placed in homeroom classes this year.
